Documentation of our cultural heritage on Philippine traditional medicine
Documentation of our cultural heritage of Philippine traditional medicine
Research into the diverse healing culture of Philippine traditional medicine as represented by the diverse 185 ethno-linguistic groups of the country (SIL), including the 110 indigenous groups (NCIP). Furthermore, healing traditions of communities and healers based on so-called “sacred places” add to the richness of our cultural heritage.
Output may be used to: a) develop culture-sensitive health education materials, health policies and programs for indigenous communities; b) prepare books/tome on Philippine traditional medicine; and c) the enrichment of Philippine materia medica. These may help to form the basis for the development of natural products, and to advocate for the conservation of natural habitats (i.e. forests) of indigenous peoples.
