ATIS (Annona squamosa L.) also known as custard apple or sugar apple. It is a sweet, delicious and nutritious seasonal fruit that contains Calcium, Phosphorus Beta-carotene; Ascorbic acid and fiber. Its dried seeds are also used to eradicate head lice.
The dried ground seeds are mixed with two parts coconut oil and can be applied to the hair, avoid getting the oil into the eyes. Cover the hair with a towel or a shower cap for 1-2 hours. Brush the hair with a fine toothed comb to remove the lice before shampooing.
(Caution: be very careful when washing the hair, avoid the rinse to get into contact with the eyes since it will cause serious eye irritation). Repeat the process once a week for two or more consecutive weeks to kill the newly hatched lice as sugar apple seeds cannot kill the lice eggs.
Atis is Cultivated in gardens and farms or occasionally spontaneous and found semi-wild .
It is cultivated throughout the country. It is native of tropical America and brought to the Philippines during the Spanish period. It is found in most tropical countries.
